Preview of “The Divide”

Xavier Gens’ “The Divide” premiered on March 13th at South by Southwest Film Festival.  No theatrical release date has been given.  Before we dive in, take a look at the trailer on the official website and then come back…

Now, is it just me, or do fog horns and air-raid sirens make ANYTHING fucking scary?  I blame Silent Hill 2.  Still, this movie presumably starts off the way I like it – Boom.  In order to be classified as a post apocalyptic film, in my opinion, the movie can’t waste too much time (if any at all) building up to the apocalyptic event.  That would make it an apocalyptic film.  What I care about is the aftermath of the event, and this movie apparently gives us exactly that via a microcosmic look at the deterioration of civility between a handful of survivors locked in bunker after a series of nuclear explosions.

I first heard about this film from Michael Biehn on Adam Carolla’s Podcast, and since Kyle Reese is on my fantasy-post-apocalyptic-survival-team, this is reason enough to see the movie.

There’s a pretty detailed review at, but I don’t recommend reading it if you’re trying to avoid spoilers.  The reviewer gave “The Divide” a 9/10 rating, which is promising,  but wasn’t too fond of it at all in an equally spoiler-ridden review.  Realistically, I have no idea what to expect, other than that I will absolutely pay money to see it on opening day.  Until then, check out these clips from to whet your appetite:
